Oldest Baptist Church Celebrates 174th Anniversary

The First Baptist Church of Chicago, the oldest Baptist Church in Chicago celebrated its 174th Anniversary with a movie, Prayer Breakfast, Anniversary Dinner and Anniversary Service. Dave Lindstrom introduced the film American Pasttime on Saturday, October 6th exploring the issue of the internment of Japanese Americans after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
Chairperson Wanda Anderson lead the congregation in prayer at the Anniversary Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, October 13th. The speaker was Rev. Kirsten Boswell Ford.
At our Anniversary Dinner on Sunday, October 14th, Sister Kiyoko Kasai Fujiu, a former member of FBC gave her eyewitnesss account of life in an internment camp and the role First Baptist played in resettling Japanese Americans in Chicago.
Our Anniversary Celebration concluded with a 4:00 p.m. program.
Dr. Ronald Beauchamp, pastor of Bethel Green Family Worship Center preached and the church choir sang. We praise God for 174th years of continuous ministry!
